River Trent, Burton Bridge
River Trent, Burton Bridge
The current Burton Bridge was built as recently as 1864, replacing an earlier one which was a little further downstream. It was widened in 1926, something commemorated by a plaque fixed to the bridge (SK2523 : Plaque on Burton Bridge). The old bridge was famous as the site of a battle in 1643 during the English Civil War; also commemorated by a plaque on the bridge (SK2523 : Blue plaque on Burton Bridge).
