NT1560 : Kitchen Moss

4 km from Nine Mile Burn, Midlothian, Great Britain

Kitchen Moss
Kitchen Moss
A flat bit of moorland that is very boggy. Water just stays around without steep slopes to drain it, and this is a typical moorland peatbog. The dampness suppresses the common heather and it is replaced by cross leaved heath. Drainage channels have been cut in the hope of improving grazing for sheep and grouse.
