This mural was designed in 2015 by local artist Melissa Pettit to adorn the rear wall of Transition Cafe in the High Street, see
Link. It illustrates the cafe's 'Waste Not, Want Not' ethos: surplus, mostly 'best before' food is donated/collected from local wholesale and retail outlets, sorted and either used in the kitchen to make wholesome meals and preserves or sent for composting, pig or poultry food. The popular non-profit cafe, largely run by volunteers, has won a number of awards and international recognition, saves many tonnes of waste from going to landfill each year and promotes the values of healthy, economical home cooking. It also acts as a community hub for groups, meetings and events.
Unfortunately the cafe building is scheduled to be demolished at the end of 2017 for a new road scheme.
