Bankend Wood
Bankend Wood
Felling of larch and pine is well under way, with 75-90% of the wood made up of these species. The plan is to re-plant with native hardwoods. Meanwhile, the red squirrels which lived in this wood have had to re-locate.

East of this location, Thwaite Wood has been similarly cleared. Mere Beck runs to the right of picture. A couple of minutes after this picture was taken, I heard a squirrel call, followed by teeth-chattering, in the corner of what is left of Thwaite Wood. Despite there being only about a dozen trees left at the location, I could not see the squirrel, which I suspected to have been a juvenile red which had been seen earlier in the evening.
