Geology explained
Geology explained
A very simple way of explaining the geology of Loch Lomond and the Highland Boundary Fault. A map of Loch Lomond is laid out in blocks of two different rock types, sandstone and what appears to be slate. Associated graphics explain that a geological fault traverses Scotland from Helensburgh in the southwest to Stonehaven in the northeast. To the north of the line, the rocks are hard and impervious. To the south they are softer with good drainage. The line passes through the islands of Loch Lomond.
