NS4661 : Stanely Reservoir: spillway

taken 7 years ago, near to Glenburn, Renfrewshire, Scotland

Stanely Reservoir: spillway
Stanely Reservoir: spillway
For a view in the opposite direction along it, see NS4661 : Stanely Reservoir. On the occasion of taking the present picture, I had a nice chat with the workers who were carrying out maintenance at this end of the reservoir; this spillway had recently been cleaned up.

The burn that issues is NS4761 : The Espedair Burn, whose waters were originally used to create the reservoir.

For more on the creation of the reservoir, see NS4763 : Memorial to Dr James Kerr.
Stanely Reservoir and Castle

The reservoir was opened in 1838 to provide water to the people and mills of Paisley. The ground floor of the derelict Stanely Castle was flooded as the reservoir level was increased over a period of years.
