Valle Crucis Abbey
The Cistercian abbey of Valle Crucis was founded in 1201 by Madog ap Gruffudd (Griffith in English) with 13 monks from Strata Florida abbey. Like most abbeys in England and Wales, it was dissolved under the 1536 Act of Suppression. The West end of the church was repaired by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1872. It is now in the care of CADW, open to the public at certain times. The ruins area grade I listed (list entry 19693) and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
