My Grandparents lived adjacent to the churchyard of this Church from before I was born till their deaths - this is how I best remember the church...
... "For over twenty years Stowmarket Church was without it's [sic] spire, presenting a rather ugly appearance, The truncated spire was known as "The Stowmarket Stump". The spire was taken down due to its dangerous condition and replaced in the mid 1990's." from Link
