Tufted vetch (Vicia cracca)
Tufted vetch (Vicia cracca)
This vetch, which is also known as cow vetch, bird vetch, blue vetch and boreal vetch, can be found growing in open fields and along roadsides. Its seeds are a popular delicacy for budgies and similar domesticated birds, and, as one of its common name suggests, it makes popular grazing crop for cows. Like other legumes, the tufted vetch enriches soil via the nitrogen fixing properties of its roots.
