taken 7 years ago, near to Bramerton, Norfolk, England
Narrowleaf Plantain (Plantago lanceolata)
This very common weed can be found in fields, lawns, meadows, on roadsides, waste ground, parks and even sand dunes. The leaves are long, narrow, lanceolate shaped and have ribs running parallel from the base of the leaf to the pointed top. The young leaves are edible raw. The leaves can also be used as an external antihistamine against nettle or animal stings or bites or for staunching blood in wounds. Tea can also be made from the leaves; it is said to be effective as a cough medicine and also to treat diarrhea. The seeds and seed husks act as laxatives.
