Nikolaus Pevsner admired the arcades: "Octagonal piers, the capitals with large upright leaves ... the date is no doubt later than Southwell chapter house (and the quality much inferior)". Elizabeth Williamson, in the 1979 Second Edition, explains that the south transept window was designed as a memorial to his parents by Frank Miles, "fashionable painter of fashionable women".
