Burkitt Homes, Queen Street, King's Lynn
12 Grade two listed almshouses of 1909 and renovated in 1954; built for and endowed by William Burkitt in memory of his uncle of the same name. The houses are built in almost a quadrangle with numbers 2,1,12 and 11 on this frontage, the boardroom, 1 and 12 comprising the gatehouse. William Burkitt did much to enhance the commercial life of Lynn and served two terms as mayor of the Borough of King's Lynn (1863-64 and 1886-87) and was a magistrate. He died at the age of 81 on 7 June 1906, leaving an estate valued at 219,501, a substantial sum at the time.
