Sufton Court, Mordiford
Built for James Hereford in 1788-89. Five bays and three storeys, the projecting central bay pedimented and including a Serlian window. The glazed porch was added in 1871. Faced in Bath stone, not a common material in these parts. There is some doubt about the architect. James Wyatt has traditionally been credited. In his 1979 book on the Wyatt dynasty, John Martin Robinson attributed it to James; in his 2012 monograph on James, the house is not mentioned. Ditto Colvin. Pevsner is inclined towards James, but notes that Anthony Keck is a plausible candidate (or may have been on-site executing James's design). Grade II* listed.
