Wightwick Manor
Now surrounded by Wolverhampton suburbia, this Victorian time capsule is in the care of the National Trust, having been given in 1937 by the Mander family, a long established Wolverhampton manufacturing family specialising in paint and ink. The company was founded in 1773. The interior is decorated throughout by the products of Morris & Co, although William Morris played no part and never came here. Pre-Raphaelite art is very well represented, as are ceramics and paintings by the De Morgans. If you want to lose 100 years for an afternoon, this is the place. Seen here is the original wing of 1887 by the Liverpool architect Edward Ould.
