Druchtag Motehill (Druchtag Motte), Mochrum
This kind of earthwork and timber castle became a common feature in the landscape of south-west Scotland from the 12th century. It was the castle of a feudal lord, but who he was is not known. The motte was built not only for defence, but as a symbol of lordship. Druchtag seems to have been abandoned at an early date and was never replaced by a stone castle.
