The foundation of the church was recorded in the 12th century. The semi-circular tympanum above the outer entrance is integral to the story of the 'Linton Worm'.
Following The Trail Of The 'Linton Worm'
The 'Linton Worm' is a mythical beast believed to have lived in this corner of Roxburghshire in the Scottish Borders in the 12th century. The word 'worm' derives from 'wyrm' (serpent).

The beast was reported to be longer than three yards, and in girth, larger than a man's leg.
