The Kelpies
The Kelpies
The Kelpies, 30-metre tall metal sculptures created by Andy Scott LinkExternal link and manufactured and erected by SH Structures Limited, are the focal point of the Helix park, and stand one on either side of a new lock on the Forth and Clyde Canal. Each is made up of 400 stainless steel panels and weighs 300 tonnes, and together they cost 5 million. They were constructed in 2013, taking only 90 days to be completed, and are the largest equine sculptures in the world. A kelpie is a horse-shaped mythical beast that lives in water, especially rivers, and the sculptures also commemorate the heavy Clydesdale horses that were used to tow barges on the canals.
The Kelpies and The Helix :: NS9081
A 30-m high sculpture at The Helix, Falkirk LinkExternal link by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott LinkExternal link. A large activity area [350ha] along the Forth and Clyde Canal and the River Carron. At The Helix and still to be fully finished, but quite striking, and surprising to some driving along the adjacent M9, who are taken by surprise.
A Visit To 'The Kelpies', January 2017
Created by sculptor Andy Scott, The Kelpies are 30 metres tall, weighing 300 tonnes and a prominent feature in The Helix park, Falkirk. The sculptures were completed in 2013 and are composed of over 400 stainless steel panels apiece. The Kelpies are mythological creatures, believed to lure humans to be eaten.

Nearly two years previously, I encountered the 'touring' 1:10 scale models of The Kelpies near my home: NT7233 : Kelpies In Kelsae
