The arms, officially granted in 1910, are based on the traditional arms of the Kingdom of the East and Middle Saxons, as used by Essex County Council, with the addition of a Saxon crown Link .
The Guinness Brewery photo appears to display Moiré patterns. Is this a problem with Geograph, or a problem with the original photograph? I suspect Geograph, as many images appear to display quite jagged lines.
