Restoration work at Abney Hall
Abney Hall was built between the 1840s and 1890s on the site of the Cheadle Grove Printworks built in 1760 but later burnt down. The last private owner was Agatha Christie's brother-in-law James Watts. In 1958 it was sold to Cheadle & Gatley Urban District Council and became Cheadle Town Hall. When Stockport Metropolitan Borough took over in 1974 most of the contents were removed to Bramhall Hall and Lyme Hall. The grounds are a local nature reserve. In 2015 the Abney Court Care Home LinkExternal link was built in the former walled garden.

The present owners Bruntwood are currently undertaking a million pound restoration programme. Apologies for the reflections, but views of the hall from the north are very difficult to obtain.
