Iron bracing, Victoria Viaduct (1)
Iron bracing, Victoria Viaduct (1)
Viewed from Viaduct Estate Road, where the wall makes a slight curve. There is a corresponding (shorter) reinforcement on the station side of the viaduct - see NY4055 : Iron bracing, Victoria Viaduct (2) . We suspect the two are connected by metal tie bars - see NY4055 : Decorative iron fixings on viaduct wall bracing . Alternative explanations would be welcome.
Victoria Viaduct was built between 1876-77, to improve road access across the railway lines and into the city centre.
