Lost land, North Fambridge
Lost land, North Fambridge
The old seawall, running straight across the view more or less at the far limit of the mud, was breached in the unprecedented 1897 floods. Because of a lack of organization, resources and money, the breach was only finally resealed in 1907, when a new wall bounding a triangular bay was the only practical solution. Years of tidal scour had made reinstatement on the old line too difficult.
