Gate on permissive path, RSPB Bluehouse Farm
At the end of an old counter wall around a former creek. The wall was probably an early sea wall before the creek was dammed off, but the history of the early sea walls of Essex is poorly recorded. It is interesting that the wall seems to have been extended on the near side of the gate between the 1897 and 1920 maps. Taken together with the good condition of the wall all the way along, it suggests that it was increased in height as a counter wall to contain flooding from the 1897 beaches in the main sea wall.
