In the great chamber of the National Trust property is a "barrel ceiling with geometrical plaster decoration ... of 1533 and a rare survival" LinkExternal link . From Pevsner, "South and West Somerset" 1958: "a plaster ceiling with thin ribs forming stars and diapers - the type of pattern which one does not expect to find before the time of Queen Elizabeth I, but which did indeed begin already under Henry VIII whose arms appear in the Lyres Gary plasterwork ... it remains a surprisingly early case".
