Brandon Yard, Floating Harbour, Bristol
Planning permission has been granted for a considerable number of new homes to be built here, on the site of the former gas works. Brandon Yard has been derelict for more than 40 years and contains the shells of two grade-II listed gas-works buildings, the West Purifier House and the Engine House. The new development is the sister project to an established scheme next door, i.e. the East Purifier and the Boathouse. Square Bay plc are authorised to restore and convert the roofless West Purifier House - off Anchor Road - to provide 58 new homes. They have also gained permission to build a new six storey apartment block on the same site, a construction that many feel is far too high for the site.
