The limestone cliffs here contain caves which were used by both wild animals and people between 60,000 and 10,000 years ago. Large numbers of animal bones have been recovered from them, including woolly rhinoceros. There have also been very important finds of cave art - the northern most cave art in Europe, which has resulted in the caves being nominated for World Heritge status.
