Course of old Railway, Bosley, Cheshire
The North Staffordshire Railway, known as "Old Knotty" because of its badge, ran a line from North Rode to Uttoxeter, via Leek. It was closed to passenger traffic in 1960, and Lord Beeching did the rest a few years later! Here we are looking towards the junction with the line (still operating) just north of the viaduct over the River Dane. The two barriers show where the line has been built on an embankment to allow a farmer's track underneath (which crosses the nearby canal over Swindalls Bridge).
The land to the right of the picture rises towards Bosley Lock 9.
