World Black Pudding Throwing Championship Ramsbottom 2007
This annual event in Ramsbottom sees competitors throw black puddings in an attempt to knock Yorkshire puddings from a 20ft high plinth,
a cheeky reference to the centuries-old rivalry between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
The golden grid, on which competitors stand when they throw their puddings, arrived by steam train SD7916 : Ramsbottom Station shortly before noon
on Sunday and was escorted to the Royal Oak pub on Bridge Street with much pomp and ceremony.
Winning brings celebrity status and the glare of the media spotlight.
Last years winner appeared live on the Alan Titchmarsh Show and Sunday's event
was broadcast around the world by ITV and Sky television.
Throwing started following the opening ceremony at midday and the presentation
to this years winner, Paul Rudge from Southport, was made at 4pm click on LinkExternal link for more information.
