A torrential downpour had halted play on the third afternoon of the Nottinghamshire-Northamptonshire match, but the ground staff did a good job and when the clouds moved off to the north east nearly two hours more play were possible in pleasant evening sunlight. At five to four the scoreboard showed Northants on 69 for 1 in their second innings, needing 348 more runs to win. They didn't get them, Notts winning by 163 runs shortly after midday on the fourth morning.
