Retreat and Conference House at Whalley Abbey
Retreat and Conference House at Whalley Abbey
Situated in The Sands BB7 9SS, this photo shows the Retreat and Conference House which was purchased in 1923 by the Anglican Diocese of Manchester then was passed to the new Diocese of Blackburn in 1926. Following refurbishment, it was reopened in September 2005 and now has conference rooms, a dining room and en suite rooms for residents attending programmes arranged by the Diocese. There is now also in the north range a visitor centre, coffee shop, exhibition centre and bookshop.
Very little of the original abbey buildings now remain following its closure in 1537 due to the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII at that time.
