Site of the crash of Mosquito B.IV, DZ 587
Mosquito B.IV, DZ 587 crashed on November 5th 1943 killing Flt/Lt John Gordon DFC and F/O Ralph Hayes DFC.
Returning from a raid one of the engines which had flak damage eventually failed and they tried to put into Hardwick airfield instead of trying to make it back to 105 Sqdn. at Marham.
Because there was a lorry on the runway they were told to go round again but crashed less than 1 miles from the runway.
A temporary memorial was erected but had to be removed when crops were harvested. LinkExternal link
