Pillimire Bridge (1)
Pillimire Bridge (1)
Approaching the bridge from the west bank of the Marske Beck, the converging walls are probably intended to aid the driving of packhorses (or flocks of sheep or herds of cattle) over this ancient bridge. Listed grade 2 (list entry 1318347), it is described in the listing as "probably late C17 with late C18 rebuilding", although as it is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument as a 'packhorse bridge' that suggests an earlier date.
