Barnard Castle: the great chamber
Barnard Castle: the great chamber
Barnard Castle is set on a high rock above the River Tees on the fringe of the market town which shares its name.

Now in the care of English Heritage, the castle takes its name from Bernard de Ballliol who founded it in the 12th century. The castle was later developed by Richard III.
