Little Salkeld Mill - the smaller wheel
Little Salkeld Mill - the smaller wheel
This is a commercially working water mill producing stoneground flour that is sold in various Cumbrian outlets. The small wheel can drive a winnowing machine (out of use) and a flour dresser on the first floor of the mill. I am not sure if or how often it is now used. The larger wheel is used regularly to drive the mill's single pair of working French burr stones and some auxiliary machinery.
