Southwestern abutment of the Avon Aqueduct, Grand Union Canal, Warwick
Built between 1796 and 1798, it carried the then Warwick and Napton Canal across the River Avon. It was the major engineering work on the canal; the three arches were designed by Henry Couchman, bridgemaster for the county. The stone was quarried locally from Wootten Field. The canal opened in March 1800 as part of a planned through route between Birmingham and London.
