Spencer House, St James's, London
Seen from the eastern side of Green Park, Spencer House was built in 1756-66 for John, first Earl Spencer, an ancestor of Diana, Princess of Wales. It is recognised as one of the most ambitious aristocratic town houses ever built in London and is the city's only eighteenth-century private palace to survive intact. It is now available for hire, and the state rooms are open to the public: LinkExternal link
