Weighbridge House - Isle of Bute
Former weighing house at Rothesay, Guildford Square, Isle of Bute.
A Category C Listed Building. Later 19th century. Rectangular-plan single storey, single bay former weighing house converted to form retail outlet late 20th century. Glazed bricks; red sandstone ashlar detailing; raised base course; bracketed timber eaves; shouldered-arch openings; ashlar cills. Weighing platform to side.
This 'great fore-tower', accessed via a wooden bridge over the moat, was only added to the original 12/13th century Rothesay Castle site by James IV in the 16th Century.
