taken 6 years ago, near to Upper Hulme, Staffordshire, England
Doxey Pool on The Roaches
The Roaches are probably named from the French "rochers" for rocks. They form dramatic rock formations and rise in two tiers from a pine belt, while below are the distinctive gulleys and gritstone rock faces of Five Clouds. Climbing routes have such names as The Mincer, Crack of Gloom and Death Knoll. The Roaches syncline has successive layers of grit and sandstone.
Doxey Pool is next to the path along the top of the upper tier. There are fine views to the west in the direction of the Cheshire Plain.
