River Dove from Viator's Bridge, Milldale
River Dove from Viator's Bridge, Milldale
Viator's Bridge was built as a packhorse bridge. Its date is unknown but it was here in 1653. It forms part of an ancient network of tracks used to transport goods all over the Peak District. It crosses the River Dove here in the hamlet of Milldale at the northern end of Dove Dale Further up from here the Dove flows through Wolfscote Dale. This is the view from the bridge looking downriver.
