Lyle Road zig-zags up Lyle Road to the Free French Memorial NS2577 : Free French Memorial, Lyle Hill. The railway bridge is just to the west of Fort Matilda station NS2577 : Fort Matilda station and carries the Glasgow-Gourock line.

Lyle Road is used regularly for cycle hill climbs, the record of 3 minutes 47 seconds for the one mile distance being recorded by Sandy Gilchrist of Edinburgh in the 1983 Scottish Championship.
