NY9519 : By Wash at Hury Reservoir

taken 6 years ago, near to Hury, County Durham, England

By Wash at Hury Reservoir
By Wash at Hury Reservoir
(The) By Wash, (capitalised on OS maps), is a wide, concrete channel on the south side of Hury Reservoir. Its purpose appears to be to allow excess water from Blackton Reservoir, (immediately upstream), to flow past the Hury Reservoir rather than first entering it.
If full and flowing this channel could carry a prodigious amount of water!
