'Parent Larch' at Dunkeld
This is the only surviving specimen of five European Larch [Larix decidua] seedlings brought from Europe in 1738 for the Duke of Atholl, a famous tree planter. Now almost 280 years old, it is known as the 'Mother of Millions' as the surviving source of over 14 million larch trees planted in the century that followed.NO0242 : 'Mother of Millions'.
