Track descending towards Fellbeck
A farm track and bridleway descending Bale Hill towards Fellbeck. Bale Hill is a name given to many sites in the dales and is associated with the smelting of lead ore on open hillside furnace fires before the system became more industrialised. It is thought that this hillside may have been used to smelt lead mined in nearby Nidderdale and destined for Fountains Abbey, the site being breezy and exposed to westerly winds.
