Goosanders don't like peas
Goosanders don't like peas
Female goosander (Mergus merganser). For view of location, see NY4053 : Black swan and ducks at Hammond's Pond .
The species is designed to eat fish, but the ones frequenting this park lake are quite happy to join the mallards, swans and gulls to gobble up the bread which people bring. A nearby notice points out that bread is not a very healthy food for ducks, and suggests some alternatives. Defrosted frozen peas went down well with the other birds, but the goosanders didn't want to know.
