Arkwright Street, Nottingham
Arkwright Street was once a principal thoroughfare between Nottingham city centre and Trent Bridge. However, when the Meadows area was comprehensively redeveloped in the 1970s no attempt was made to preserve anything of the old road layout and Arkwright Street was severed, effectively becoming a road to nowhere, petering out in this no-mans-land between the station and the modern Meadows housing area. Until 1974 this stretch of road was crossed by the Great Central railway which ran through the Meadows on a series of arches. There was even an Arkwright Street station here. No trace of the railway has survived in this area.
