Originally this was in fact the main line of the canal from Ellesmere, which explains why Rowsons Bridge up on the Llangollen Canal, just beyond the junction, has the number 1 on it SJ3631 : Llangollen Canal, Rowson's Bridge, even though it is nearly 30 miles from the Llangollen's initial parting with the Shropshire Union Main Line at Hurleston.
