An imposing rectangular earthwork fort of (English) Civil War era, with a surrounding moat, and bastions at the four corners. Dates to about 1645. Possibly unfinished, perhaps built as a training exercise prior to Royalist troops going to England to fight for the 7th Earl of Derby (Lord of Man).
