Santon Head promontory fort
Santon Head promontory fort
Looking south-west across the defensive ditch of Santon Head promontory fort. The defensive rampart and fort are to the left. Probably Iron-Age in date this is one of over 20 such forts around the coast of the Isle of Man. Many were reused in Norse/Viking times by the Norse, some may have been used as coastal lookouts during Elizabethan times and maybe even during the Napoleonic wars.
