8-12 The Close
Some of these Grade II* listed 18th century buildings are dwellings house, the others offices. A plaque >
Link informs that the houses were built on the site of the 12th century church of St Mary in the Marsh, which was demolished in 1775. In 1783 Thomas Garland, the cathedral's organist and discoverer of Zachariah Buck used to live in number 11. Buck was organist and Master of the Choristers from 1817-1877. St. Luke's Chapel within the cathedral is now used as the parish church by the parishioners of St Mary in the Marsh.
