Monken Hadley, Bocking, Braintree
Built for the Tufnell Family by the architect Frederick Chancellor (1825-1915), this small country estate house had a succession of occupants from 1896 to 1946, after which it became a hostel for the blind, then a home for the elderly, until its closure in 2001. It has now been converted into apartments.
