Clouds Hill, Dorset
The property, now owned by the National Trust, was once a gamekeeper's cottage. It became the property of Lawrence of Arabia in the years shortly after the Great War, the conflict in which Colonel T E Lawrence came to prominence. The cottage is basic in terms of facilities and creature comforts lacking a toilet of any sort. In Lawrence's day there was no electricity either. He did install a water supply and a bathroom though. The copious supply of rhododendrons he used for firewood. An unusual feature is the 'window' visible in this image just under the gable roof; it is a porthole from an old warship and was put in by Lawrence.
